Minamata is a small fishing town in japan. The people of Minamata love there fish. In 1956 people were getting sick they were admitted to hospital with a very high fever, convulsions and psychosis. Peoples symtoms got worse, people devloped tremors in their arms and legs, some developed difficulty walking, loss of consciousness, numbness in the limbs and lips, even brain damage.

The doctors and nurses didn't know what to do! Eventually the doctors and nurses figured out what was worng in minamata. Untreated mercury was being dumped into minamata bay and the shiranui sea. Fish were being poisoned with mercury and then eaten by the unsuspecting residents of minamata.

39 years later 2,252 people were confirmed diagnosed and 1,784 people had died from mercury poisoings.
